Natural orders and executive delusion

natural

naturalIf you are or ever have been female/femme-presenting, you’re probably aware of the Natural Look, and the fact that it takes a lot more effort – and products – to look ‘natural’ ie as if you are not wearing makeup than it does to be wearing obvious makeup. Look on that, perhaps, as Lesson One – the more fuss there is about things being natural and especially when the demand to be natural is so insistent that the message is: not being natural is a crime, the less ‘natural’ the thing being demanded actually is.

This came to mind this week as the flurry of executive orders from Trump, the Muskrat and all the christofascists keep coming. Yes, the thought that *Americans are just FUCKING WEIRD also came to mind. One of the weird things they are currently pushing seems to be the idea that wealthy, white, cishet men are naturally superior to everyone else, and that this is so much the natural order of things that… it needs to be enforced by law, backed up with violence.

naturalI mean, just LOOK at these so-called superior creatures. Ketamine-addled, badly-dressed mingers who can’t string a coherent sentence together half the time; a bloke who fucks soft furnishings and a bunch of wusses who go on about their physical strength and toughness but clearly wouldn’t win a fight with a wasp.

If you need laws and authorities to enforce a status or a behaviour then there’s very little natural about it. It would just happen unless you went to a similar amount of effort to stop it happening. It’s exactly the same as idiots bawling that any kind of relationship other than heterosexual monogamy is ‘unnatural’: you wouldn’t need social and legal sanctions to make people monogamous of it was natural for them to live like that.

*I do know plenty of nice ones who are no more weird than the rest of us. But collectively, fucking weird is about right. We did have a weirdo trying to run the show a few years back, in the form of Dominic Cummings and his posse of incels and eugenicists, but most people thought they were cringe rather than dangerous, and Cummings was no match for the chaos of the plague year, which he hadn’t invented and didn’t know how to manipulate, so his fangs were drawn early on.
